In November 2013, Krushnamegh Kunte and I had organized a small symposium on evolutionary biology in honor of Alfred Russel Wallace, one of the co-discoverers of the theory of evolution by natural selection. As a follow up, we edited a special section on Evolutionary Biology for Current Science, comprised of a diversity of review articles... Continue Reading →
Laasya awarded a Wellcome Trust-DBT Early career fellowship
Congratulations to Laasya for getting the (very competitive) fellowship! The award will support her work on the potential adaptive consequences of altered initiator tRNA levels in bacteria. We're excited about the project and can't wait to see what Laasya discovers!
NCBS Annual Talks 2015
Our campus annual talks just finished, and many of us from the lab presented our work. It was a hectic but fun few days. Here are some pictures of lab people with their posters.
Congratulations, Laasya!
Laasya's postdoctoral work in the lab is now supported by an NCBS Career Development Fellowship. Congratulations!
Two new papers
We have two new papers that just came out in print. One is a review on bacterial genomic GC content evolution, and the other shows a surprising case of resource niche contraction at high density in beetles. Both are available here; check them out!
Congratulations, Arun!
A few months ago Arun turned in his Master's thesis to Bangalore University. At long last, he's received his Master's degree and has done really well. For his thesis project, Arun quantified the competitive ability of different Tribolium castaneum populations as well as their ability to resist bacterial pathogens. Arun continues to work on these... ICGEB research grant
We got another grant! The International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology will fund part of Kruttika's thesis project to analyze butterfly gut microbial communities. The three-year grant will begin from Jan 2015.
CSIR Research grant
I'm pleased to say that part of our work on tRNA evolution will be funded by a two-year research grant from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
